Check In With Yourself Before You Check Up

Founded in 2018 by a team of clinicians, coaches, and researchers — Heava was built on a single belief: that lasting health comes from treating the whole person, not just the symptom.

The appointments we put off

Routine screenings rarely feel necessary in the moment. Nothing hurts, nothing seems wrong, so the appointment slides to next month, then next year. That gap is exactly where prevention loses its power.

Part of the problem is how screenings are framed, as something you do when you suspect a problem, rather than something you do specifically because you don't. Reframing routine checkups as a way to confirm good health, not just investigate bad health, makes them far easier to prioritize.

Make it a habit, not a decision

Attach checkups to something fixed on the calendar, a birthday, the start of a new year, so you're not relying on memory or motivation. Removing the decision removes the excuse to delay.

Decisions made in the moment are vulnerable to whatever else is happening that week. A fixed trigger sidesteps that entirely. You're not asking yourself whether now is a good time, you're simply following through on something you already decided, long before life got in the way.

Early is easier, always

Whatever a screening might catch, it's almost always simpler to address early than late. That single fact is worth more than any amount of willpower applied after the fact.

This is the entire argument for prevention in one sentence. Nearly every condition is easier, cheaper, and less disruptive to treat early than after it's had time to develop. Showing up for the appointment is a small inconvenience. Skipping it is a much larger bet, one made with far less information than you'd like.
